Glass is a magical material with a long history in Thailand.  Thai craftsmen used the qualities and characteristics of glass to create art such as antique glass decorations. Nowadays, with the advancement of industrial techniques and production, glass is used in the daily lives of all Thais citizens in the form of tableware, construction and packaging.  Now, Bangkok Glass Public Company Limited (BG), a leading company in total glass solutions, plans to take the next step and develop glass art in Thailand.

BGC Glass Studio was founded in April 2017 to promote the creation and the development of art glass education in a methodical way.  First, they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Silpakorn University as a glass art academic partner to work hand in hand with in the creation of a Centre of the glass art education in Thailand and the ASEAN region.  Then, BGC Glass Studio spent the last year organizing and delivering a series of activities to improve the skills of their studio and academic staff.  Activities included: acquisition of equipment and staff; workshops in basic glass blowing to BGC Glass Studio staff, Thai students, professors and artists taught by internationally acclaimed glass artists and instructors; and, visits to other academic and operational studios to learn best practices.  In this way, BGC Glass Studio has created a first group of glass artists in Thailand - an important first step in the continuation of path to develop a productive, creative art glass community in the future.

As a next step, Bangkok Glass Public Company Limited (BG) is pleased to announce the inaugural Thailand Glass Art Festival 2018 to be held in Bangkok from November 22 - December 6, 2018.  Their goal is to establish a new destination for glass art in Asia by creating the first festival in Thailand and ASEAN. The festival will provide an opportunity for students, artists and glass enthusiasts to exchange their knowledge and glass working skills and begin to create a glass art network in Thailand and ASEAN. The festival will feature workshops by internationally recognized glass Artists from Thailand, the USA, Japan and Australia. Thailand Glass Art Festival 2018 will promote Thai art and culture through the ever-changing and vibrant spectrum of art glass.
